HP Orchestra Biography

The Highland Park Orchestra (Highland Park, NJ) was established in Fall of 2005 by the founding orchestra director, Ms. Hsin-Ting Feng.  Under Ms. Feng's direction, the Highland Park Orchestras have won impressive awards consistently, including Superior Ratings and Highest Overall Awards.  The Highland Park High School Philharmonic won first place Gold rating at the Worldstrides Heritage Festivals and the Adjudicator’s Award in 2012 at Philadelphia, PA and in 2013 at Manhattan, NY.  In 2014, the Philharmonic attended the National Festival of Gold at Carnegie Hall.  The Philharmonic orchestra won the Original Works Award at the 2015 National Orchestra Cup in Lincoln Center when they performed “Fantasy For Strings” by composer Ben Newhouse, a piece specially commissioned to commemorate its tenth anniversary of the Orchestra Program.  The students in our ensembles are committed and dedicated to using their talents towards charity and furthering local causes through music. They have shared their love of music with appreciative audiences at community concerts hosted by the Highland Park mayor,  the Scotch Plains Evergreen Elementary School where the students learned about string instruments from our students, Ronald McDonald House and numerous senior living homes.  One of the students' favorite experiences was performing at the Summit Speech School, where they brought the joy of music to deaf and hearing impaired preschoolers.  The latest edition to the Chamber Orchestra has been forming quartets to perform at various wedding venues. As the orchestras continue to expand musically, they hope to bring continued inspiration through future performances.
